All over! South Africa win by 72 runs
Live Cricket Score - South Africa vs India, 1st Test, Day 4, Cape Town
The incredibly entertaining Day 4 has come to an end with the hosts sealing a comprehensive 72-run victory! And a lot of credit for that is down to Vernon Philander. After India enjoyed a dreamy start to Day 4 - bowling South Africa out for 130 - the hosts stung back through Philander's incredible show of seam bowling, which was ably supported by Morne Morkel and Kagiso Rabada's accuracy. Cheteshwar Pujara got an unplayable ball but most of the other batsmen were guilty of chasing balls they should've kept away from.
Getting bowled out for 135 in chase of 208 must be deflating, but India still put up a very good fight to make it a finely engaging game of cricket. India's faults were more down to their ineffectiveness with the ball in the first innings than their failure with the bat in the second.
Well done to South Africa. They always seemed to believe that 208 was a score enough to bowl India out, and as it turned it out, it was more than plenty. India had their few ups amidst a lot of downs - Hardik Pandya's batting in the first innings and the pacers' turn around in the second will hold them in good stead going ahead.
The teams will next travel to Centurion for the second Test, starting on January 13.
Five for Philander!
Mohammed Shami lofted the pacer over mid on for a four first ball and then edged the second to du Plessis at second slip. India are a wicket away from a defeat here!
Philander strikes again!
Just when Virat Kohli was starting to truly believe India still had an outside chance here, Philander has removed Ashwin! Excellent catch from de Kock while standing up to Philander. India 131 for 8.
